Black History Essay Contest 2016

The 2nd Annual Atlanta Falcons BLACK HISTORY MONTH ART & ESSAY CONTEST (“Contest”) is open to students ages 13-18 in grades 7th – 12th grade as of the date the Contest begins, who attend middle and high school within 75 miles of Atlanta and who are legal U.S. and Georgia residents. The Atlanta Falcons are encouraging students to create an art piece displaying their favorite African American historical figure and write a 100-200 word blurb on why they admire that figure. How to Enter to Win:

The Contest runs from 3 p.m. EST February 10 –  8 p.m. February 28, 2017.

  • Prepare a creative art piece of your favorite African American historical figure accompanied by a typed, 100 – 200 word essay for why you selected this figure and what importance they have in your life.
  • All Artwork and Essays must be original, must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. Artwork must be handmade.
  • No tracing, photograph or digital artwork will be considered.
  • Both wet and dry mediums are allowed.
  • Maximum size including framing is 48” x 48”.  There is no minimum size.

City Treasurer’s Black History Month Essay Contest

2018 City Treasurer’s Black History Month Essay Competition

Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers is proud to announce the 2018 Black History Month Essay Contest. The 11th annual scholarship contest, sponsored by the Treasurer’s Office, is open to all CPS seniors that have at least 50 hours of community service. The $2,500 scholarship will be used to support the award winner’s first year of college.

This scholarship recognizes a senior in high school who has displayed outstanding academic achievement or community involvement and writes a thoughtful and impactful essay (600-1,200 words) on a topic related to Black History Month. Participating students must also provide a description of their college plans.

Topic: What is a key issue that people in your community face that often goes unnoticed? What role can public and private investments in your community play in addressing that issue? How can you play a positive role in shaping those investments?

Scholarship Qualifications:

  • CPS senior (class of 2018)
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year institution of higher education or educational institution in the fall of 2018
  • NO GPA REQUIREMENT
  • Strong community service/civic engagement suggested (students should be able to prove service learning hours)

  • If you have not completed your FAFSA, when do you plan to complete it? If you do not plan to complete the FAFSA, please provide an explanation.
